![]() ![]() Other issues with the handbrake include the rusting of moving parts, causing them to stick so that the handbrake cannot be applied or released fully. Cables wear over time, and this can lead to fraying. The cables stretch with use and need checking regularly to make sure they do not need adjusting. Without a fully operational cable, the car cannot be secured or prevented from rolling downhill. The cable connects the handbrake lever to the brakes on the rear wheels of the car. Parking brakes often consist of a cable connected to two-wheel brakes, which is then connected to a pulling mechanism. It is quite helpful since it stops a car from rolling forwards or backwards when parked on a slope or a surface that is uneven. In road vehicles, this is a mechanism used to keep the vehicle securely motionless when parked. Handbrake cables operate the emergency brake and are usually located at the rear brakes. The handbrake cable is also referred to as a parking brake or emergency brake. Therefore, contact your local e-CAR mechanic. Usually, this is left for your mechanic to do. If you cannot see it it is because you probably have to remove the centre console. Directly behind the lever, you will find the adjustment nuts on a shaft. This can usually be found in the centre console where the traditional handbrake is found in a car. This will result in the parking brake not being able to hold the weight of the vehicle, which may cause it to roll or lean, even when the parking brake is fully engaged. Something to try before shelling out to a dealer for some parts you may not need and at an inflated cost.If the parking brake cable becomes excessively worn or stretched, it will not be able to pull the parking brake as tightly. Resistance should be very low like 0.1 ohms maybe 1ohm but anything higher or and OL reading the harness is nfg and needs to be replaced. If you have this problem unplug and check the harness (2 wires) for continuity between each end (if you have a multimeter). Codes with still be logged but light is off. This warning self clears when connection reestablished which is why it will go away. The abs module stop seeing the motor due to the wire break or almost break which causes the code. Odds are pretty good you don’t need new actuators when this happens, especially if it is intermittent. Easy repair, around 60$ CAD per side for the new harnesses. Not sure how this happens but seems to be common on edges and MKX. This is what was found inside the wiring loom, makes sense as to why it was failing lol. For some reason the wiring in these harnesses break inside the wiring loom. One for parking brake malfunction and the other for left parking brake motor. The failure message was intermittent as some on here also had. Turned out to just be the wiring harness from the vehicle to the parking brake motor. This is kind of a dead thread but I figured I’d post what I’ve found given this happened to me on my MKX. and left rear park brake wire harnesses, clear dtc, road tested Scan has multipul dtc, park brake, and switch related, replace switch, replace rt. I hate lug nuts with caps lolĪ PERFORM RECALL 20s42 FRONT BRAKE FLEXIBLE HOSE LEAKSĨ7474 20S42B, 1.0 HOUR REPLACE BOTH FRONT FLEX HOSES Some of my lug nuts were "swollen" so they had to be replaced. When I looked at the wiring harness for the passenger side it seemed to have some corrosion in the connector, so I believe there was a seal that got compromised and caused this to happen. Here is everything they ended up doing (also included the front brake hose recall they had to do) including the part numbers they replaced as well. Turns out my parking brake actuator on the passenger side was also bad. Almost always it's related to corrosion in a connector. ![]()
